The London 2012 Paralympic Games will take place between 29 August and 9 September and will see the Paralympic Movement return to the country of its spiritual birthplace.

They will be the biggest Paralympic Games ever featuring 4,280 athletes from 166 countries who will compete in 20 sports.

The London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games' (LOCOG) vision is that rather than making them different from previous Paralympics, they want to take the best aspects of previous Games and bring them together.

Mandeville, who is named after Stoke Mandeville Hospital, the spiritual home of the Paralympic Movement, is the Paralympic mascot and has been actively involved in Get Set, London 2012’s education programme.

Launched in September 2008, Get Set has seen over 24,000 UK schools (approximately 80 per cent of the total) undertake London 2012 related activity.

On 9 September 2010 tickets for the Paralympic Games went on sale. In the first three week ticket window more than 1 million tickets were sold, a record for the Paralympic Games. Already a number of sports are sold-out.

Ninety-five per cent of tickets are priced £50 and below and the vast majority of tickets are less than £20. Day passes, which allow spectators to take in more than one sport, have also been created for a number of venues.

The day before tickets went on sale London’s Trafalgar Square staged International Paralympic Day. More than 100 British and international athletes attended the 12 hour spectacular which involved demonstrations in 10 Paralympic sports

In addition to sprints along a purpose-built 50m track in front of the National Gallery involving the USA duo of April Holmes and Jerome Singleton along with France’s Marie Amelie LeFur and South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius, British Prime Minister David Cameron challenged London Mayor Boris Johnson to a game of Wheelchair Tennis making worldwide media headlines.

Channel 4 has been appointed as UK host broadcaster and in the lead-up to the Games has screened a number of programmes designed to raise the profile on athletes and their sports.

BBC Radio 5 has been awarded the UK radio rights and is planning to broadcast live commentary and analysis from the Games.

The IPC has also appointed the Press Association as host national news agency to provide the most comprehensive coverage yet for events in the run up to London 2012 and the Paralympic Games themselves.

London 2012 has also secured the biggest commercial deal ever for a Paralympic Games with UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s. The company boasts 21.5 million customers each week all of whom will be exposed to London 2012 Paralympic branding in the lead-up to, and during, the Games.

London was elected to be the host city for the 2012 Games on 6 July 2005, at the 117th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Singapore.

Following four rounds of voting by IOC members, London eventually triumphed by taking 54 votes from a possible 104. Other cities competing for the right to host the Games were Paris (France), New York (USA), Moscow (Russia) and Madrid .

The Honourable Usain St. Leo Bolt, OJ, C.D. ( /ˈjuːseɪn/;^[8] born 21 August 1986), is a Jamaican sprinter and a five-time World and three-time Olympic gold medalist. He is the world record and Olympic record holder in the 100 metres, the200 metres and (along with his teammates) the 4×100 metres relay. He is the reigning Olympic champion in these three events, and is one of only seven athletes (along with Valerie Adams, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Jacques Freitag, Yelena Isinbayeva, Jana Pittman, Dani Samuels) to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an athletic event.

Bolt won a 200 m gold medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships, making him the competition's youngest-ever gold medalist at the time (since surpassed by Jacko Gill. In 2004, at the CARIFTA Games, he became the first junior sprinter to run the 200 m in less than 20 seconds with a time of 19.93 s,^[9] breaking the previous world junior record held by Roy Martinby two-tenths of a second. He turned professional in 2004, and although he competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics, he missed most of the next two seasons due to injuries. In 2007, he broke Don Quarrie's 200 m Jamaican record with a run of 19.75 s.

His 2008 season began with his first world record performance—a 100 m world record of 9.72 s—and culminated in world andOlympic records in both the 100 m and 200 m events at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. He ran 9.69 s for the 100 m and 19.30 s in the 200 m, and also set a 4×100 m relay record of 37.10 s with the Jamaican team. This made him the first man to win three sprinting events at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984, and the first man to set world records in all three at a single Olympics. The following year he further lowered his own 100 m and 200 m world records to 9.58 s and 19.19 s respectively at the 2009 World Championships.^[10] This made him the first man to hold both the 100 and 200 m world and Olympic titles at the same time.

His 2009 record breaking margin over 100 m is the highest since the start of digital time measurements.^[11] His achievements in sprinting have earned him the media nickname "Lightning Bolt",^[12] and awards including the IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and Laureus Sportsman of the Year.

2005-2009

Το 2005 κατέκτησε την πέμπτη θέση στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα Στίβου στο Ελσίνκι με επίδοση 14,64μ. Τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2005 κατέκτησε την πρώτη θέση στον τελικό των Γκραν Πρι που διεξήχθη στο Μονακό στις 9 - 10 Σεπτεμβρίου με επίδοση 14,89 μ.

Το 2006 δεν μετείχε σε αγώνες κλειστού στίβου ενώ ξεκίνησε τη θερινή σεζόν με πολύ καλές επιδόσεις και στο τριπλούν και στο μήκος. Κέρδισε το Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα Στίβου στο μήκος με επίδοση 6,83 μ., που είναι η τρίτη καλύτερη όλων των εποχών στην Ελλάδα, ενώ στο τριπλούν έχει επίδοση 14,88 μ., επίδοση που πέτυχε στα Τσικλιτήρεια 2006.

Πήρε μέρος στους αγώνες της πρώτης κατηγορίας (δεύτερο γκρουπ) του Ευρωπαϊκού Κυπέλλου Στίβου Μπρούνο Τζάουλι που διεξήχθη στο Καυταντζόγλειο στάδιο της Θεσσαλονίκης το διήμερο 17 - 18 Ιουνίου 2006. Συμμετείχε στα αγωνίσματα του τριπλούν και του μήκους και κέρδισε και στα δύο με επιδόσεις 14,44 μ. και 6,71 μ. αντιστοίχως χαρίζοντας 16υπερπολυτίμους βαθμούς στην ελληνική ομάδα και βοηθώντας την να τερματίσει πρώτη στο δεύτερο γκρουπ και να ανέβει στη Σούπερ Λίγκα.

Έλαβε μέρος στον προκριματικό του τριπλούν στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα Στίβου στο Γκέτεμποργκ της Σουηδίας και πέρασε στον τελικό κάνοντας 14.64 στη δεύτερή της προσπάθεια.

Στον τελικό του αγωνίσματος που έγινε στις 9 Αυγούστου 2006 κατέκτησε το ασημένιο μετάλλιο με επίδοση 15.05 που έκανε στην πρώτη της προσπάθεια στον αγώνα. Χαρακτηριστικό είναι ότι βρισκόταν στην πρώτη θέση μέχρι το προτελευταίο άλμα στον αγώνα, όταν η Τατιάνα Λεμπέντεβα έκανε στην τελευταία προσπάθεια της 15.15 και πήρε το χρυσό μετάλλιο από την Χρυσοπηγή Δεβετζή.

Στις 31 Αυγούστου 2007 κατέκτησε το χάλκινο μετάλλιο στο πλαίσιο του Παγκοσμίου Πρωταθλήματος Στίβου στην Οζάκα της Ιαπωνίας με επίδοση 15,04, την οποία πέτυχε στην πρώτη της προσπάθεια. Είχε, ακόμη, τέσσερις άκυρες προσπάθειες και μία ακόμα επιτυχημένη στα 14,75. Ακολούθησε, τον επόμενο μήνα (23 Σεπτεμβρίου 2007), η δεύτερη θέση στον τελικό των Γκραν πρι, στη Στουτγάρδη, με άλμα στα 14,75 μέτρα.

Στις 16 Οκτωβρίου 2007 η Χρυσοπηγή κατέκτησε ένα χρυσό μετάλλιο στο μήκος στους Παγκόσμιους Στρατιωτικούς Αγώνες στην Ινδία, με 6,69μ.

Στις 10 Δεκεμβρίου του 2007 ψηφίστηκε από τους αθλητικούς συντάκτες ως κορυφαία του ελληνικού αθλητισμού^[3]για τρίτη συνεχή χρονιά.

Η Δεβετζή στο Βαλκανικό Πρωτάθλημα στις 9 Φεβρουαρίου του 2008 έκανε άλμα 6,85 μ. στο μήκος. Αυτό ήταν η δεύτερη καλύτερη επίδοση της ελληνικής ιστορίας^[4] στον κλειστό στίβο, μετά το πανελλήνιο ρεκόρ της Νίκης Ξάνθου (6,91).

Το Μάρτιο του 2008, στο Παγκόσμιο πρωτάθλημα κλειστού στίβου στη Βαλένθια της Ισπανίας, η αθλήτρια^[5]προκρίθηκε από το πρώτο της άλμα (14,63μ.) στον τελικό του αγωνίσματος. Τον ίδιο μήνα ορίστηκε η τελευταία λαμπαδηδρόμος κατά την αφή της Ολυμπιακής Φλόγας.

Η Δεβετζή πρώτευσε στο άλμα εις μήκος στο γκαλά γυναικών στη Φιλοθέη στις 28 Μαΐου του 2008^[6]πετυχαίνοντας 6,66μ. στην πρώτη προσπάθειά της .

Η πρωταθλήτρια πέτυχε παγκόσμια επίδοση^[7] με 15,22 μέτρα στο τριπλούν στη διάρκεια του μίτινγκ "Θεσσαλονίκη 2008".

Στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Πεκίνου το 2008 αφού προκρίθηκε με την πρώτη προσπάθεια κατευθείαν στον τελικό του τριπλούν, κέρδισε το χάλκινο μετάλλιο με επίδοση 15,23 μ. που αποτέλεσε την καλύτερη επίδοσή της εκείνο το χρόνο.

Τον Απρίλιο του 2009 στο Γκραν Πρι του Ντακάρ στις 14 Απριλίου η αθλήτρια ήταν 4η με άλμα στο τριπλούν 14,08 μ.^[8]
